7 Ways to Boost Your LinkedIn Presence and Build Your Personal Brand

LinkedIn has become a powerful platform for professionals looking to grow their personal brand, build connections, and position themselves as thought leaders within their niche. But like any social network, it’s important to understand how to engage authentically and strategically to get the most out of it. Today, I’m sharing 7 ways you can improve your LinkedIn presence using your personal profile to get the attention and engagement you deserve.

1. Post Consistently

Consistency is key on any platform, and LinkedIn is no different. You’ll want to aim for posting two to three times a week to stay relevant in your network's feed. The best times to post? Mornings! Once you’ve shared your content, check back later in the day to engage with any comments or messages. This two-step process helps to foster conversations and keeps your content fresh in people's minds.

Remember, the content you post should always relate to business, even if the topics seem broad at first glance. You’re not just posting for the sake of it; you’re aiming to build relationships and nurture valuable connections for the long term. Don’t let messages and comments go unanswered—people love to feel acknowledged, even if it’s just a quick “Thank you!”

2. Use Visual and Video Content

Content with images, videos, or slides is more engaging and gets higher views on LinkedIn. You can share everything from infographics to live-streamed events. LinkedIn even allows you to create carousel posts, which are a great way to showcase documents or presentations. These visual swipes are engaging and encourage people to spend more time on your content.

Video is particularly powerful, and I recommend you mix it up with other media. Remember, engagement is about more than just text—give your audience something to interact with!

3. Go Live with LinkedIn Live

LinkedIn Live is a fantastic feature that lets you engage with your audience in real-time. Whether it’s a monologue, a webinar, or a live event, live-streaming is a great way to share your thoughts and ideas directly. If you haven’t tried it yet, now’s the time to jump in! Don’t feel too much pressure to be perfect—just get started and talk about what matters to your audience.

During live streams, you can cover industry trends, host Q&As, or even showcase behind-the-scenes moments from your business. Live content helps you build authenticity and trust.

4. Share Other People’s Content (With Your Thoughts)

Sharing relevant news articles, trends, or insights from others in your industry is a great way to demonstrate thought leadership—but don’t just hit the share button without adding your own twist! Set yourself apart by giving your opinion or asking questions to start a discussion.

By adding your unique voice, you’ll encourage your audience to engage and create more meaningful conversations. Be the person at the “cocktail party” who asks thoughtful questions and draws people in.

5. Create LinkedIn-Specific Content

It’s tempting to repost content from other platforms, but it’s important to make sure your LinkedIn content feels tailored to the audience. Consider reformatting or tweaking posts so they fit LinkedIn’s tone and style. The content you share on LinkedIn should be relevant to the business audience you’re cultivating here.

Take the time to customize your message for LinkedIn, whether that means tweaking the format, adjusting the language, or providing additional insights that cater to this platform’s professional audience.

6. Use Hashtags Strategically

Hashtags are an essential tool for content discovery on LinkedIn, so use them wisely. Make sure your hashtags are relevant to your content, not just trendy, and avoid overstuffing your posts with too many. Instead, aim for targeted and specific hashtags that categorize your content properly and help LinkedIn understand how to present your posts to the right audience.

7. Tag Influencers and Colleagues

Tagging other people in your posts is a great way to generate engagement. When you tag someone, they get notified, which encourages them to interact with your content. Tagging can also help you reach new audiences through their networks, especially if they like, comment, or share your post.

However, be strategic with this. Don’t tag just for the sake of it—make sure the people you’re tagging are relevant to the conversation. This helps build genuine relationships and shows that you respect their time and attention.

Bonus Tip: Remember, LinkedIn is a Professional Network

Before I wrap up, it’s important to remember that LinkedIn is not TikTok or Instagram. It’s a professional space, so keep your content focused on business-building topics. Fun, informal content is great—but leave the dance videos for other platforms!

Following these 7 tips will help you build a stronger LinkedIn presence this year and elevate your personal brand.
